SMART launched and is operating the subsidized bread distribution system across the county since May 2014 with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, and later afterwards they started adopting the bread points redemption system.

The bread points redemption is a reward system for beneficiaries of the subsidized bread program which allows beneficiaries who do not fully use their allowed bread quota to have their unused bread loaves turn into points exchangeable for other food items from grocer’s outlets.

The point redemption program allowed for the savings of millions of pounds from the bread subsidy program.

Smart created, designed and continue to operate the system of Bread Redemption Points for 23 million cards through 35,000 merchants across the whole country.
